Imagine a child bedridden in a lonely hospital room…bored, scared, and in pain. Now imagine the joy of watching a movie or playing a game…laughing, interacting, and being lost in the moment. That's the magic of therapeutic entertainment.
With a minimum commitment of $1 million, Hollywood Video is brightening the lives of seriously ill children through Hollywood Video Starlight Sites™, Fun Center™ mobile entertainment unit Sponsorships, and an associate volunteer force of Community Stars.
Hollywood Video Starlight Sites
Hollywood Video Starlight Sites provide an escape for seriously ill children. From watching movies and playing games, to relaxing with friends and family, these rooms offer a welcome respite from the rigors of ongoing medical treatment.
The flagship Hollywood Video Starlight Site opened in July 2003 at Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital in Portland. Our second site opened February 2004 at Shriners Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles. Our third site opened in February 2005 at the Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital in Houston (Get a virtual tour of this site). Our fourth Starlight Site opened at Philadelphia's St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in the fall of 2006.
Fun Centers
Fun Center mobile entertainment units include a Nintendo Wii™ gaming system, a DVD player, and a Sharp AQUOS™ LCD television. Their design allows kids, even those who aren’t able to leave their beds or who have limited motion, to play with ease. Fun Centers roll right up to the side of young patients’ beds or anywhere in a hospital setting, making them perfect for hospitalized children in numerous situations: anticipating surgery, during long outpatient clinic treatments, waiting in the emergency room or fighting loneliness after visiting hours have ended. Fun Centers featuring the Wii can even be used to encourage children to do their physical therapy and motor coordination exercises! Caregivers also report that Fun Center use may result in a reduced need for pain medication.

Hollywood Video partners help bring the healing powers of entertainment and friendship to ill children across the country by hosting Hollywood Video Movie Nights™ and Game Crazy Game Nights™ in their local hospitals.
